Common types of machine embroidery

1. Flat Embroidery Craft

Flat Embroidery Craft

Also known as fine embroidery, it belongs to the basic embroidery stitches, including single stitch, double stitch, triple stitch, satin stitch, tatami stitch, E-stitch, outline stitch, curved tatami insertion stitch, cloud stitch, etc. Flat embroidery can be further divided into skip stitch embroidery, running stitch embroidery, and tatami stitch embroidery. Skip stitch embroidery is mainly used for simple fonts and patterns such as logos; running stitch embroidery is suitable for small texts and delicate textures; tatami stitch embroidery is applied to larger and more intricate patterns.

2. 3D Embroidery Craft

Also called corded embroidery, it creates three-dimensional embroidered effects. It wraps EVA glue with embroidery thread to form three-dimensional patterns. Foam is used for embroidery, making embroidered badges or works look three-dimensional and more vivid.

3. Cutwork Embroidery Craft

Cutwork Embroidery Craft

Also known as pierced embroidery, it involves making hollowed-out designs on the fabric surface according to the designed patterns. It can be applied to bolt fabric (full-width cutwork) or partial cutwork on cut pieces. The main stitch used is the blanket stitch: after embroidering the outline of the pattern, the area inside the outline is hollowed out by cutting the fabric with scissors, achieving an effect similar to carved hollowing. Alternatively, a piercing knife is used to pierce the fabric, and the edges are bound with embroidery thread to form holes in the middle.

4. Sequin Embroidery Craft

Also called spangle embroidery, it strings sequins of specified shape and uniform size into a rope-like material, which is then embroidered on a flat embroidery machine equipped with a sequin embroidery device. Sequin embroidery is suitable for creating special handcrafted-like effects on handbags, shoe uppers, and clothing, giving the embroidered works a strong texture.

5. Toothbrush Embroidery Craft

 Toothbrush Embroidery Craft

Also known as flocking embroidery, it adds a certain height of auxiliary material (such as EVA) to the fabric during the regular embroidery process. After embroidery, the embroidery thread on the EVA is trimmed neatly and the auxiliary material is removed, forming an embroidery that resembles the shape of a toothbrush. Toothbrush embroidery can be combined with other embroidery methods such as flat embroidery to make patterns more diverse.

6. Towel Embroidery Craft

Also called looped embroidery, it belongs to 3D embroidery and has an effect similar to towel fabric. It is divided into hand towel embroidery and computerized towel embroidery. Computerized towel embroidery can create any flower shape and color. Due to its characteristics of layering, novelty, and strong three-dimensional sense, it is widely popular among consumers and designers, and is widely used in clothing, home accessories, crafts and other industries.

7. Appliqué Embroidery Craft

Appliqué Embroidery Craft

Also known as patch embroidery, it involves attaching another piece of fabric to the base fabric for embroidery to add a three-dimensional or layered effect. It can be made into binding embroidery or appliqué cutwork embroidery. The embroidery method is: cut the appliqué fabric according to the pattern requirements and paste it on the embroidery surface; alternatively, place cotton or other materials between the appliqué fabric and the embroidery surface to make the pattern protrude with a three-dimensional effect. After pasting, the edges are locked with various stitches. Appliqué embroidery is simple in method, with patterns mainly based on large areas.

8. Hollow Embroidery Craft

Hollow embroidery involves adding a piece of foam rubber to the cut piece before performing flat embroidery. Hollow 3D embroidery uses foam rubber in a way similar to 3D embroidery: after embroidery, the foam rubber is removed by dry cleaning or hand tearing, forming a hollow center (the foam rubber presents a soft three-dimensional effect with a smooth surface, usually 1-5mm thick). It can achieve soft embroidery effects that corded 3D embroidery cannot, with the upper thread creating a three-dimensional sense on the fabric and better highlighting the depth and luster of colors.
