2. Upper thread and lower thread must match: too tight upper thread is prone to thread breakage and fabric shrinkage; too loose upper thread is prone to loose threads; the tightness of the lower thread should follow the upper thread;
3. Stitch length, needle size, and stabilizer must match the tension—adjusting only the tension without changing the needle/stabilizer is useless;
4. Debugging tip: Embroider a small square of 10-20 stitches, flip the fabric, and if the intersection of the upper and lower threads is in the middle of the fabric, the tension is balanced.

3. Thick Fabrics (Thick Denim, Canvas, Wool Fabric, Thick Leather)
This type of fabric is "durable", but has high density and hardness, and strong penetration resistance during embroidery—too little tension will cause thread breakage and loose stitches, while too much will lead to needle breakage and stiff fabric deformation.
Tension Settings:
- Upper thread tension: 200-300g (conventional machine value 2.0-3.0), 30%-50% higher than medium-thick fabrics;
- Lower thread tension: Slightly tight—when pulling out the lower thread, slight force is needed, and the thread spool falls slowly;
- Presser foot pressure: Heavy pressure, adjusted to 4-5 gears to ensure the fabric is tightly attached to the needle plate without hanging in the air;

The difficulty with elastic fabrics is that they are "stretchy and have strong retractability". During embroidery, too much tension will stretch and deform the fabric, resulting in skewed stitches; too little will cause wrinkles and loose threads, and the stitches will loosen when stretched after embroidery.
Tension Settings:
- Upper thread tension: 120-180g (conventional machine value 1.2-1.8), 10%-20% lower than medium-thick fabrics;
- Lower thread tension: Moderate to loose, to avoid tight lower thread stretching and deforming the fabric during elastic retraction;
- Presser foot pressure: Medium to light, adjusted to 3 gears to prevent wrinkling elastic fabrics;
- Stitch length: 1.3-1.8mm, small stitch length adapts to elastic stretching and avoids stitch breakage.
Key Reminder: Must use high-elastic stabilizer or double-sided adhesive stabilizer to fix the fabric and prevent stretching; choose ball point needles to avoid snagging elastic fibers; keep the fabric flat naturally during embroidery, do not forcefully stretch it when hooping.
5. Special Smooth Fabrics (Silk, Satin, Waterproof Fabric, Coated Fabric)
The characteristic of this type of fabric is its smooth surface and low friction, which makes it easy to slip during embroidery. Too much tension is prone to fraying and glazing, while too little will cause displacement and uneven stitches.
Tension Settings:
- Upper thread tension: 110-160g (conventional machine value 1.1-1.6), slightly looser than ordinary medium-thick fabrics;
- Lower thread tension: Moderate, matching the upper thread to avoid uneven stitch tightness;
- Presser foot pressure: Medium, adjusted to 3-4 gears to increase friction and prevent fabric slipping;
- Stitch length: 1.4-1.8mm, moderate stitch length reduces the probability of fabric slipping.

Don’t panic when encountering problems during embroidery—find the corresponding issue and fine-tune the tension to solve it:
1. Fabric shrinkage and fraying: Upper thread/presser foot pressure is too high → Reduce tension by 1-2 gears and decrease presser foot pressure;
2. Loose and scattered stitches: Upper thread is too loose → Increase tension by 0.5-1 gear and check if the lower thread is too loose;
